Omega Fire

Services

ServicesOmega Fire have extensive experience in a wide range of fire related services allowing them to offer support and advice throughout the entire design and construction process, taking your project from initial inception through to final occupation of the building and beyond. We are able to provide an extensive range of services to cover any eventuality, be it a comprehensive fire engineered design or simply overcoming a specific problem.

Each project we work on is unique and therefore this demands a specifically tailored approach to realise the maximum potential of the space. The signature of our works is a bespoke fire safety strategy which delivers innovative solutions in a practical and economic manner, producing efficient schemes that are safe by design. We develop our fire strategies by thoroughly consulting with all project stakeholders and use this information to tailor our designs to directly suit the needs of each individual project. This allows our clients the flexibility to develop buildings that strive to architecturally inspire whilst meeting their functional objectives.

The specific list of services that Omega Fire provide can be seen on the side toolbar; simply click on the relevant button to discover further information about each service.

The flow chart below provides a strategic overview of the services that we are able to offer at each stage of a projects life cycle.

Concept

Fire engineering involvement in the initial concept stage affords the greatest freedom to the architect in developing the concepts of a design. Whether this is challenging traditional building design approaches e.g. large uncompartmented spaces or maintaining maximum efficiency within the building e.g. rationalising the required number of escape stairs. The fire engineer can provide this initial advice from the onset ensuring a design can be successfully developed while maximising cost savings.

Feasibility

It is recognised that a number of fire engineered solutions may exist to satisfy a particular fire safety requirement. By undertaking a feasibility study of the various design options, each option can be  fully evaluated in terms of financial, architectural and functional benefits and limitations. Each solution may also be presented to the local authorities to obtain conceptual approval, providing sufficient confidence to a design team that the building can be fixed for planning approval.

Design

During the design stages, the fire engineer will undertake and complete all the required fire engineered analysis and provide full support to the architect and design team to incorporate the necessary fire safety requirements into the building with limited impact. This information will be thoroughly documented into a bespoke Fire Strategy document.
Typically during the construction stage the value of Fire Engineering can be overlooked, however, by having fire engineering continuity through this stage, potential site issues and extensive staff costs can be avoided. This is even more imperative when complex fire engineering solutions have been incorporated to ensure the contractor correctly implements and understands the design. Other services that can be provided include construction phasing strategies, RFI’s, emergency plans and site fire risk assessments.

Management

Under current fire safety legislation specifically the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, it is now a requirement that before occupation of a building a Fire Safety Management Strategy is developed. This document should highlight the fire safety features within the building, procedural duties and the required maintenance schedules for each system along with the main assumptions used in the design stage of the fire engineering of the building.

Occupation

Upon occupation, a building should have a Fire Risk Assessment that is maintained and updated annually or following any significant works. This risk assessment may highlight areas where staff need training, building modifications, or further support in meeting the fire safety requirements, all of which we can support or provide in-house

Due-diligence

An area that has seen a large increase in fire engineering input is due-diligence; these fire safety audits can be for building purchases, part occupation certificates, refurbishments or fit out works. Understanding the fire safety requirements from an early stage, in any of these processes, can avoid significant costs relating to additional or renewing fire safety systems and loss of time due to elongated approvals or insufficient information.
